common excursion   - included in the conference fee (100 euro) ... except public ferry cost

The Wednesday afternoon excursion will take us to the fortress island of Suomenlinna, which is also a Unesco World Heritage site (http://www.suomenlinna.fi/en/). There will be a possibility to take part in a guided walking tour (included in registration fee), visit the Suomenlinna museum (http://www.suomenlinna.fi/en/visitor/museums/suomenlinna-museum/) or enjoy one of the cafes on the island.

Suomenlinna is accessible only by a ferry (20 min from central market square, which can be reached in ca 30 min by tram from FMI). The ferry is part of the Helsinki public transportation system, and thus you can get onboard with your multiple day public transportation ticket or alternatively you can buy a separate ferry ticket from a ticket machine on the dock (valid for 12 h; https://www.hsl.fi/en/tickets-and-fares/suomenlinna-ticket).

hotels (accommodations)

There are several options close to the main railway station (e.g. Radisson-Blue Plaza, Hotel Helsinki, Vaakuna, Seurahuone). Please search for hotels
in the city center on anywhere else on your preferred website
(Stefan recommends Hotel Fabian: ~15 min walk from/to the railway station).

A budget option about 1 km south of the meeting site is Ava (http://www.ava.fi/hotel-ava) which offers basic rooms at reasonable prices. There are some restaurants in the neighbourhood. City centre can be accessed by frequent bus or tram lines in about 15-20 minutes.
